What is the Map Element?
The Map Element allows you to import a map of an area, assign points of interest, and it generates a sidebar listing the points of interest. You can add multiple floors if you have imported the floor plan of a building. The map can be navigated by floor, POI, and zoom in or out. This is designed for an interactive kiosk application.
Map Element Options
The Map toolbar only has one option, but it opens an editor with many more options available Let’s look at it!
The default Floors Editor comes pre-populated with a Ground Floor, Second Floor, an SVG map, and points of interest.
Title – Changes the name of your floor.
Background – Double click defaultmap_ground.svg to select your map’s svg file from your Korbyt Media Library.
Pin Color – This is the color of pins that sit on the map to denote landmarks.
Landmark Color – This is the color of the defined landmarks.
Hovered Color – This is the color landmarks turn to when the user has a cursor hovered over it.
You can click the Second Floor tab to edit options for the second Floor.
The plus (+) tab is currently not functional. In the future this will allow you to add another floor to your map.
Navigating the Map
Search – Type in the name of a landmark and the landmark and description will appear in the box below.
Landmark Names – Click the name of a Landmark to zoom in on that Landmark’s pin. Click the X in the top right corner of the pin description to navigate somewhere else.
Category Headers – Click the name of a category to collapse or expand that category.
In the bottom left corner of the element are the zoom controls.
Use the plus (+) symbol to zoom in.
Use the minus (-) symbol to zoom out.
Use the box with the arrows at the bottom to reset the map to the 100% zoom. This allows you to view the entire map at once.
In the top right of the element is a box that shows the Title of the floor you are currently viewing.
Use the Up Arrow to view a higher floor.
Use the Down Arrow to view a lower floor.
Collapsing the Directory Listing
In the top left corner of the map, there’s a box with a right arrow in it. Click this to collapse the directory listing and view only your map within the element. Click it again to expand the listing back out.
If you leave the Directory listing collapsed when editing your layout, it will display collapsed on a screen unless a user clicks it again to expand the listing back out.
Remove a Default Landmark
- Click the pin for the landmark you would like to remove. This brings up a box with the name and description.
- Click the trash can icon in the lower right hand corner. This removes the pin from the map and the listing from the directory on the right hand side.
Add a Landmark
- Click on the map where you want the pin for your landmark to be.
- A dialog will pop up for you to enter your landmark’s name, description, and category.
- Click OK when you’re done.
